As we wrap up another year, I wanted to thank you for standing with youth in foster care. This past year hasn’t been easy for anyone, but young people impacted by foster care have been particularly vulnerable to financial concerns, food insecurity, and housing instability, all while navigating complex systems and the transition to adulthood.
Fortunately, Silver Lining youth have had our dedicated mentors and caring staff to walk with them and help them along the way—so to all our mentors and supporters, THANK YOU for stepping up and reminding our young people that they are not alone, that they matter.
Back in March, Tina and her mentor Julie celebrated their 15-year match anniversary! See what they had to say about their time together, along with pictures of mementos from their 15 years.
Iliana shared her powerful story with the Boston Globe
SLM Board member and mentor Iliana Joaquin bravely shared her story with Boston Globe Ideas. Iliana’s mentees, Bree and Olga, also shared their stories during Match 2021 and in our fall mailing.
Alasia & Meghan shared their relationship at Match 2021
Alasia and her mentor, Meghan, were featured during our Match 2021 celebration in June. They shared how their relationship has evolved over the years and how having a mentor has helped Alasia thrive.
Yamil & Monica celebrated one year matched
Yamil was matched with his mentor, Monica, in October 2020. To celebrate their first year as a match, they shared their experience building a mentoring relationship virtually and what their hopes are for the future.
Deavonie & Keith reflected on their mentoring relationship
Having a mentor has helped Deavonie learn and grow—and his mentor Keith finds their relationship enriching, too! The match shared their thoughts in a May interview, and Deavonie expanded on his experience in a November reflection blog post.
