Webinar: Incorporating a Strengths-Based Mindset into Mentor Training and Program Policies
Practicing a strengths-based mindset in youth mentoring is critical to building on the potential inherent in all youth and families. Yet deficit-based ways of thinking are deeply ingrained habits supported by a negativity bias to which we are all susceptible. Good intentions alone will not ensure a mentoring organization incorporates a strengths-based mindset throughout programming.
This collaborative webinar from MENTOR and Silver Lining Mentoring will help mentoring practitioners establish and maintain a strengths-based approach throughout program design and implementation. Participants will leave this workshop with an appreciation for how a strengths-based approach supports youth development, an understanding of how to practice it, and a tool to utilize in your program.
Fostering Progress: Building Collaborative Partnerships Across Adult Supports
Youth in foster care experience numerous paid providers, with frequent—and sometimes abrupt—transitions. Developing healthy and effective relationships between providers and mentors/program staff is critical for mentor consistency and match strength. In this workshop, we will explore how SLM (and you) define the roles of guardians, caregivers, mentors, and program staff. We will also discuss inherent barriers and opportunities working across adult providers and identify best practices in areas of communication, expectations, and match support.
