Silver Lining Mentoring is proud to announce that philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has selected Silver Lining as part of her effort “to give the majority of [her] wealth back to the society that helped generate it.” Ms. Scott’s rigorous process of national research and analysis makes us incredibly proud to stand alongside the 464 other high-performing nonprofit organizations in which she has chosen to invest.

“We are incredibly grateful and honored to receive Ms. Scott’s generous gift. This gift allows us to continue to provide much-needed stability for young people who have been profoundly affected by the precariousness of life in the foster care system,” says Colby Swettberg, CEO. “Silver Lining has always been about creating and sustaining long-term relationships. This gift arrived auspiciously as we are celebrating two of our longest mentoring matches who have been together for 20 years and counting. Ms. Scott’s investment in Silver Lining Mentoring ensures that youth in foster care will have access to consistent mentoring relationships for decades to come.”

In celebrating this moment, we want to thank each and every one of you for helping to make SLM the organization we are today—our incredible young people, dedicated mentors, talented staff, committed partners, and our generous funders and supporters. Thanks to your partnership over the years, our small but mighty team is bridging the belonging gap for young people in foster care, deepening our regional impact, and expanding our national programming. You all will be a crucial part of the work ahead—you are our roots and we can’t do this work without you.

As we sow the seeds for our future, Silver Lining will continue to invest in our flagship Boston-area programs, supporting over 250 youth annually as they grow in relationships and develop life skills with their mentors. We’ll expand our national presence, impacting at least 10,000 young people each year through strategic consulting and training, as well as our advocacy for policies and resources to support mentoring relationships for youth in care throughout the country. We hope you will join us in our excitement about the future—we look forward to walking this path together with you, the SLM community, as we empower youth in foster care to thrive.
