At Silver Lining Mentoring, we know that continuing education is important to helping mentors and young people succeed. That’s why we’re excited to introduce three new virtual learning opportunities for mentors!
Hosted on TalentLMS, these three new courses are convenient and self-paced. The trainings cover topics that are top-of-mind for our mentors:
- Understanding the Aging Out Process for Youth in Foster Care: This module helps mentors understand what the “aging out” process involves, including timeline, decision points, terminology, and key players. It helps mentors understand common challenges, barriers, and opportunities in the aging out process, and how to apply this understanding to their mentee’s current experience.
- Relating Anti-Racism to Mentoring: This training provides an introduction to the concept of anti-racism via an online TED2020 interview with author and historian Ibram X. Kendi, followed by critical thinking questions for mentors of youth in foster care.
- Attachment, Regulation, and Competency Clinical Approach: This module introduces mentors to the trauma-informed clinical approach—Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC)—that SLM Program Coordinators use. Mentors will gain a basic understanding of how ARC terminology, strategies, and benefits inform our match support process.
Each training contains links to external resources for further learning. As always, mentors have the opportunity to provide feedback to the SLM team to ensure that the resources are as helpful as possible.
We will be adding more trainings on important topics over time, so stay tuned for those!
