Mentor Sam and her dog

Each month, Silver Lining Mentoring spotlights a Mentor of the Month to shine light on the incredible volunteers who make a difference in the lives of our young people and live by Silver Lining’s values of commitment, community, innovation, equity, and gratitude.

This month, we’re excited to spotlight Sam! Sam and her mentee were matched through our Learn & Earn program earlier this year. Since then, Sam has modeled youth-centered, trauma-informed mentorship and has built a strong relationship with her mentee.

Here’s what Suzannah Blass, their program coordinator, shared in her nomination:

“Sam is a new mentor who joined us through The Home for Little Wanderers’ Spring 2022 Learn & Earn cohort. Sam and her mentee E immediately bonded and celebrated getting to transition into our Community Based Mentoring program together. Now, Sam and E spend time together either virtually or in person every Tuesday, and enjoy activities like getting food together or getting their nails done.

Sam has gone above and beyond in support of Emilee. She has shown consistency, persistence, and incredible communication. Sam continues to seek out ways to help support E with her goals of going to college and obtaining her drivers license. Sam has specifically sought out conversations and connections with supporters in Emilee’s life to collaborate on the best way to support E in her goals. Sam and E are looking forward to being in each other’s lives for a long time!”

Even though the pair has only known each other for just over six months, they have formed a powerful, positive, committed mentoring relationship.

On behalf of the entire Silver Lining Mentoring community, THANK YOU for being an incredible mentor, Sam!
